West End Theatre Breaks
Pauline Quirke will leave the ITV soap opera Emmerdale to concentrate on a Birds of a Feather stage show. The star played the part of “Sharon Theodopolopodos” in the long-running BBC sitcom, alongside Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph. The stage show will see all three women reunited to play their memorable characters and is tipped to tour in 2012.
Working Title Productions, the company behind the Bridget Jones films and Billy Elliot the Musical, are reportedly working on bringing the hilarious film to the stage. New songs are being written for the show by pop star Lily Allen and Greg Kurstin. The production's West End debut is rumoured to be pencilled in for 2012.
Pre-production is underway for the big screen version of the iconic West End show. Theatre impresario Sir Cameron Mackintosh is eager for Alfie Boe to play Jean Valjean – a part he is currently playing at the Queen’s Theatre – but Boe’s modest international profile makes X-Men and Australia star Hugh Jackman Hollywood's popular choice for the film’s starring role.
