West End Rumours

The Last of the Duchess

Dame Maggie Smith is reported to be considering her next West End role in Nicholas Wright’s new play. Based on Caroline Blackwood’s controversial book, The Last of the Duchess deals with Duchess of York Wallis Simpson’s sinister relationship with her French lawyer Suzanne Blum in the years before her death. It is hoped that The Last of the Duchess will open in the West End early in 2010.

Urinetown

A London transfer of this hit Broadway musical has been rumoured for several months. Based on an idea by Greg Kotis and inspired by a pay-per-use toilet, Urinetown is a funny yet effective satire on social irresponsibility, petty bureaucracy and rebellion. It has been suggested that the show may benefit from a UK premiere outside London before it hits the West End, so it is likely that Urinetown will begin at Leicester’s Curve Theatre before hopefull reaching the West End in 2010. It is believed that the lead role of Bobby Strong will be played by Zorro star Matt Rawle.

The Count of Monte Cristo

The romantic French epic "The Count of Monte Cristo" maybe coming to the West End in 2010 as a musical production of this timeless tale.
