Billy Elliot's 5th Birthday

Billy Elliot the musical is 5 years old tomorrow (31 March 2010). The show was an instant smash when it opened at the Apollo Victoria theatre in 2005. The show combines lyrics by Lee Hall, who wrote the screenplay for the film, and a score by Elton John. The show recently saw a production open on Broadway to rave reviews from the critics.

To celebrate the 5th anniversary an extra special finale will take place, featuring up to 19 past and present Billy Elliot’s. The line up includes the first three original Billy’s, Liam Mower (currently at Rambert School of Ballet), James Lomas (Dirty Dancing) and George Maguire (TV credits include ITV's Renaissance).

The Show

 

Billy Elliot tells the story of the son of a striking Durham coal miner with an incongruous passion for ballet. Billy is faced with prejudice within his own family but is determined to make a career out of his passion. While the show’s themes are family-friendly, there is strong language and a certain amount of stage violence so the recommended age limit is twelve years old.
