West End Theatre Breaks
| Melanie C’s acclaimed West End debut in Willie Russell’s Blood Brothers will come to a end this month. The former Spice Girl has received terrific praise for her portrayal of the indomitable Mrs Johnstone since taking over the role last October from former X-Factor contestant Niki Evans. Liverpool-born Melanie was always known as the Spice Girl who could sing, but has still surprised critics with her assured acting and emotionally powerful performances. She will leave the role to work on a new album (her fifth solo release) and spend more time with baby daughter Scarlet. |

Twin Brothers: Parallel LivesA struggling single mother, Mrs Johnstone (Melanie C), agrees to hand over one of her newborn twins to her childless but rich employer, the superstitious Mrs Lyons. The boys, Mickey and Eddie, lead parallel lives on either side of the Liverpool class divide. As they grow up their paths intertwine, though their secret relationship is held with fateful consequences. |

Celebrating 21 Remarkable YearsBlood Brothers is celebrating 21 years in the West End and is the longest running show at the Phoenix theatre, having played at the venue since 1991. A Broadway production and U.S. and U.K. tours have further enhanced the reputation of the show. Originally written as a school production by Liverpool playwright Willie Russell, Blood Brothers is now one of Britain’s best loved musicals, captivating audiences with its simple and moving story, with many fans returning time and again. |
