Breakfast in the West End?

Brookside and Pushing Daisies star Anna Friel is rumoured to be lined up for Trevor Nunn’s proposed stage adaptation of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Rumour has it that Breakfast at Tiffany’s will take the Theatre Royal Haymarket after the recently extended Waiting for Godot, and Anna is apparently lined up to take the lead as Holly Golightly, the role immortalised on screen by Audrey Hepburn, in the most iconic role of her career, and one of the most seen images in movie history.

The 1961 movie was based on a novello by Truman Capote, published in 1958 but based in the 1940’s, and it is the original texted that the new show will be adapted from. Breakfast at Tiffany’s was last seen on stage as a musical adaptation of the film entitled Holly Golightly, staged in Boston in 1966. A resounding flop, it closed after only four performances. Trevor Nunn’s last screen to stage venture was the less than successful musical Gone With the Wind, which closed after only two months at the New London Theatre last year. With great casting and a different approach (this new production will be a play rather than a musical), Trevor Nunn might have a West End hit on his hands.
