Chess Star to Appear in South Pacific

Daniel Koek's Website Chess star Daniel Koek will take a leading part in the Barbican Theatre production of South Pacific later this summer. The Australian-born actor is a graduate of the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and has played an increasing number of prominent roles in the last couple of years including the lead in Jason and the Argonauts and the part of “Anatoly” in Craig Revel Horwood’s award-winning UK Chess tour. He also played the lead role of “Tony” in the 50th Anniversary production of West Side Story, which was produced by Ambassador Theatre Group.

One of Broadway’s Greatest Musicals

South Pacific is the memorable 1949 Rogers and Hammerstein musical that includes the famous songs I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair, Bali Hai, Some Enchanted Evening and I'm in Love with a Wonderful Guy. Set on a South Pacific island during the Second World War, the show weaves together the stories of several characters (including a young Army Lieutenant, a nurse and a French plantation owner) into a romantic drama marked by the isolation and upheaval of the terrible conflict.

New York Revival Comes to London

The original Broadway production was nominated for and won ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Libretto. It is the only musical production ever to have won all four Tony Awards for acting.

This American revival comes to London after an acclaimed Broadway run. It will open at the Barbican Centre before embarking on a national tour. The UK cast will include Loretta Ables Sayre as “Bloody Mary”, Paulo Szot as Emile “DeBecque” and Samantha Womack as “Nellie Forbush”.
