Credit Crunch Theatre Breaks

Whether it’s a midweek escape or a long weekend, the uncertain economic climate means people are playing it safe and taking short breaks at home.

With a hotel room and theatre ticket for the top West End shows such as Wicked from £74, Grease from £79 or Oliver! from £87, theatre has become an affordable option to many individuals, couples and families looking for an exciting, yet different, attraction.

Since the phenomenon of the ‘Staycation’ began with the downturn, the UK leisure industry has been working hard to provide value for money. People may not want to travel a long distance for their entertainment, but everyone needs a change of scene to relax and unwind.

A football match and one night’s accommodation package at one of the top London clubs can set you back well over a hundred pounds per person. Demand for the big league matches is high and seats go quickly, if you’re lucky enough to get one at all. Due to TV scheduling and cup competitions, fixtures may be subject to change, with travel arrangements having to be adjusted accordingly.

With a theatre break there is no need to commit early. Many people enjoy the flexibility as tickets can be bought from days to months in advance safe in the knowledge that show dates and times are regular and reliable.

The credit crunch may have left you counting the pennies, but with an overnight stay and a ticket to a top musical from as little as £77, escapism remains affordable in London’s West End.
