Hodge and Lawson Return to La Cage

Olivier Award winner Douglas Hodge will return to the Playhouse Theatre as ‘Albin’, the star turn of the La Cage nightclub when he appears as his alter-ego, drag queen ‘Zaza’. The producers of La Cage Aux Folles are also delighted to welcome back Denis Lawson as club owner and Albin’s lover ‘Georges’.

The pair will return for a strictly limited 5 week season from 30th November 2009 as the show celebrates its first birthday at the Playhouse Theatre. The original London revival opened in January 2008 at the Menier Chocolate Factory with critical acclaim for Douglas Hodge’s portrayal of ‘Albin’.

A Colourful Story

Georges and Albin have colourful lives. Georges is master of ceremonies, whilst his partner Albin is the flamboyant drag queen 'Zaza' at hot St Tropez nightclub La Cage. When Georges grown-up son arrives home with the news that he is getting married to the daughter of a conservative politician their idyllic existence is threatened; especially when the prospective father-in-law’s goal is to close down the local drag clubs!

Praise and Awards

Since transferring to the West End 12 months ago the show has received many rave reviews and awards, including a Lawrence Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival. Douglas Hodge won Best Actor, whilst Denis Lawson was nominated for the role of Georges. With the old team back together the Christmas performances are not to be missed!
