La Cage and Night Music headed for Broadway

La Cage Aux Folles and A Little Night Music are to be staged in New York. Hot on the heels of home grown Tony winners Billy Elliot, God of Carnage and The Norman Conquests, the two shows are looking for more Broadway glory for the West End.

La Cage Aux Folles
Both produced and staged by the Menier Chocolate Factory last year, La Cage Aux Folles and A Little Night Music have both found further success in the West End. Of the two La Cage Aux Folles has attracted the most public attention at the Playhouse with its celebrity casting; Graham Norton played Albin at the beginning of this year and John Barrowman will join the show this September.

It is thought that a Broadway production of La Cage Aux Folles will run concurrently with the London show, as its popularity shows no sign of abating. The Menier’s Tony Award winning Douglas Hodge will reprise the role of Albin in New York.

A Little Night Music: a limited run?
Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music has equalled the success of La Cage, with rave reviews and packed houses. An impressive of West End stars including Alex Hanson and Maureen Lipman have made the show a hit with the UK’s theatre lovers.

Initially opening at the Garrick as a limited season in March, it extended its run several times and will close this month. A Broadway production is expected to open before the end of the year and it will most likely have a new cast.

With the West End’s recent track record in New York looking undeniably impressive, it’s most likely that two of our most critically acclaimed shows will continue the run of West End triumphs on Broadway.
