Last Dance for Priscilla at the Palace Theatre?

Priscilla Queen of the Desert may depart the Palace Theatre at the end of the year according to internet rumours. Closing notices have not yet been officially posted, however the show’s publicity team issued a statement to the Whatsonstage website in June to say that the London cast and crew have been informed of the likelihood that the show will end its three year West End run at the end of 2011.

The Flamboyant Film that Became a Hit Musical

Priscilla Queen of the Desert Priscilla Queen of the Desert had its world premiere in Sydney in 2006 after being adapted for stage by the original film’s writer, Stephan Elliot. The musical moved to Melbourne, New Zealand and back to Sydney again between 2007 and 2008.  The West End show opened at the Palace Theatre in 2009 with Jason Donovan as 'Tick/Mitzi', Tony Sheldon as 'Bernadette' and Oliver Thornton as 'Adam/Felicia'.

The creative team included Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner, who re-created their Academy Award-winning costume designs from the flamboyant movie with spectacular effect on stage. Unsurprisingly, the show won the 2010 Olivier Award for Best Costume Design. A Broadway production opened in March 2011 with Tony Sheldon reprising the role of 'Bernadette'. A US tour has been announced for the autumn of 2012.

Don’t Leave Me This Way

Just like the 1994 Oscar-winning film, Priscilla Queen of the Desert follows the story of a glamorous Sydney-based performing trio who embark of the trip of a lifetime across the Australian Outback in a battered old bus. Each man is on a personal journey but together they end up finding more than they could ever have dreamed. The Musical brings the hilarious and poignant action to the stage, embellished with plenty of dance floor classics, including Don’t Leave Me This Way, I Say A Little Prayer, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, MacArthur Park and Boogie Wonderland.
