West End Theatre Breaks

London has once again topped the UK short break list for holiday provider (and WETB sister company) Superbreak, as the travel specialist published it's list of the most popular British destinations for 2010. The capital remains the place to go for weekend breaks, closely followed by the historic cities of Edinburgh and York: |

West End Theatre a Big AttractionSpeaking about the results, Ian Mounser, Sales Director at Superbreak, expects this year to be another good one for the city despite the UK's ongoing economic concerns. “I think London will remain a strong number one this year, on the back of some big new show openings including The Wizard of Oz, Shrek The Musical and Ghost The Musical. It is possible that fewer shopping orientated breaks to the cities will be taken and we will therefore work with agents to ensure they are promoting the other reasons to visit them.” |

Record Ticket Revenues in 2010Findings from the Society of London Theatre (SOLT) would seem to back up the Superbreak prediction, as record revenues were announced for London plays, musicals, dance and opera over the last 12 months. Box Office figures topped £500 million for only the second time ever, with attendances exceeding 14 million - a level that may have been even higher were it not for the bad weather that hit sales towards the end of the year. Nica Burns, President of the SOLT said: “Despite economic woes, volcanic ash, and huge transport disruption notably during our busiest time of the year at Christmas, we have managed our seventh successive year of growth at the box office. London theatre is something for everyone to be proud of and is a great ambassador for UK plc.” |
