West End Theatre Breaks
![]() | Love Never Dies, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hotly anticipated sequel to The Phantom of the Opera, is expected to open simultaneously in an unprecedented four cities this autumn. |
| Previously, it had been reported that as well as a London production, Love Never Dies would open in Shanghai and Toronto, with provisional plans for the Toronto show to transfer to Broadway, depending on its success. However, those plans have been scrapped, and now it is reported that a separate production will open on Broadway to run concurrently with the Toronto show. | |
| With both Broadway and the West End still feeling the impact of the recession, the plans to make Love Never Dies a global theatre event are very risky. However, the lack of fact and abundance of mystery and speculation surrounding the show have built up a level of hype that new shows simply haven’t been achieving in the current climate. Andrew Lloyd Webber has set his target pretty high as sequel Love Never Dies will inevitably draw comparisons to the first instalment, widely considered to be the Lord’s masterpiece. | |
| Love Never Dies naturally has a lot to live up to, and could either be a total tragedy or the greatest theatrical triumph the world has ever seen. An official announcement will be made on Thursday 7 May so watch this space. | |
