West End Theatre Breaks
| Paul McGann and Amanda Drew will appear alongside Dominic West in the forthcoming revival of Simon Gray’s comedy Butley at the Duchess theatre. McGann (former Dr Who and Withnail and I star) will play Reg Nuttall. Drew (who was recently seen in Enron and Otherwise Engaged) will play Anne Butley. Directed by Lindsay Posner, Butley plays at the Duchess theatre this summer following Sign of the Times, which ends on 02 April 2011, and a limited run of the Mike Leigh drama Ecstasy. | |

Full Cast Confirmed for Entertaining Dark ComedyDominic West, star of US police drama The Wire, will play the title role of the acid-tongued lecturer Ben Butley. His theatre credits include The Seagull (Old Vic), As You Like It (West End), The Voysey Inheritance (National), Rock ‘n' Roll (West End) and Life Is A Dream (Donmar). Penny Downie will play Edna Shaft. Her stage credits include Gertrude in Hamlet and Penelope in The Penelopiad (both for the RSC) and Dinner (National Theatre/West End). Other cast members include Martin Hutson, Cai Brigden and Emma Hiddleston. |

His wife has run off with the most boring man in London, his protégé has found a new mentor and his rival in the English department has actually managed to secure a book deal. Caught in a spiral of self-destruction, Butley decides if this is the way his life’s going to be he’s going to make sure everyone else suffers too! Butley premiered in 1971 starring Alan Bates at the Criterion Theatre. It was subsequently made into a film directed by Harold Pinter. |
