Ray Charles Musical

US musician Ray Charles is to get a musical in his honour celebrating his career this November opening on Broadway.

Unchain My Heart

The new musical, called Unchain My Heart, will be produced by the same person who made the Oscar-winning movie Ray, starring Hollywood actor Jamie Foxx. The musical has already been staged at the Pasadena Playhouse in 2007. To capitalise on the show, Suzan-Lori Parks, has penned a book to accompany the show.

Ray Charles

Ray Charles was born in the US 1930 and was a pioneer in the genre of soul music during the 1950s by fusing rhythm & blues, gospel and blues styles into his early recordings. Rolling Stone ranked Charles as number 10 on their list of “The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time” and voted number two on their 2008 list of “The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.”

In the early stages, the Broadway cast has yet to be unveiled. Be sure to check back to UKTickets for any further news of a West End transfer.
