Singin in the Rain The Chichester Festival Theatre production of Singin’ in the Rain will transfer to the Palace Theatre (currently home to Priscilla, Queen of the Desert) from 15th February 2012 (previews from 4th February). The show opened at the popular Sussex venue in June to excellent reviews, with a cast including former Swan Lake star Adam Cooper in the role of ‘Don Lockwood’ and one-time ‘Mary Poppins’ Scarlett Strallen as ‘Kathy Seldon’. The musical includes the songs Make ‘em Laugh, Good Morning, Moses Supposes and the title song, Singin’ in the Rain.

The Show that Makes a Splash

Singin’ in the Rain was previously seen in West End between 1983 and 1985, when it ran at the London Palladium with Tommy Steele and Roy Castle. It was produced at the National Theatre in 2000/01, directed by Jude Kelly with choreography by Stephen Mear. A second production by Stephen Mear also played at Sadler’s Wells in 2004. This new revival is directed by Jonathan Church and with choreography by Andrew Wright.

'This is a show that genuinely makes you feel better about life.'

A Classic Film with Gene Kelly

Singin’ in the Rain is based on the 1952 MGM movie that starred Gene Kelly as ‘Don Lockwood’ - a leading silent film star who must adjust to life in talking pictures. Don’s regular co-star is the glamorous blonde Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen). Don’s got the singing voice to guarantee success, but unfortunately Lina doesn’t have to vocals to match her oversized ego. Don’s best friend Cosmo (Donald O’Connor) comes up with a brilliant idea. Unknown actress Kathy Selden (Debbie Reynolds) is a wonderful singer and is ready to stand in for the unwitting Lina. Hollywood will never be the same again!
