Supermodel Christie Brinkley could be heading for the West End this summer according to rumours on BroadwayWorld.com from Showbizz411. The beauty icon and actress is currently starring as murderess “Roxie Hart” in Chicago on Broadway – previously played by Brooke Shields, Sandy Duncan and Bebe Neuwirth, amongst others – and may be set to reprise the role in London alongside New York co-star Amra-Faye Wright, the South African-born actress and cabaret star who plays “Velma Kelly”. |
A Pop Culture Star for Over 30 YearsChristie Brinkley was discovered by a photographer in Paris at the age of 18 and went on to become one of the most recognisable supermodels of the 1970’s and 1980’s, appearing on over 500 magazine covers. She made her acting debut in the 1983 movie comedy National Lampoon’s Vacation (starring Chevy Chase) and famously appeared in the music video for Billy Joel’s smash-hit "Uptown Girl". She also secured a record 20-year contract with cosmetics brand CoverGirl, the longest such deal in the history of the modelling industry. Away from acting and modelling, she has excelled as an artist, author and photographer. She wrote and illustrated the best-selling health and beauty book "Christie Brinkley's Outdoor Beauty and Fitness Guide". The Razzle-Dazzle at the Cambridge TheatreChicago has dazzled audiences at the Cambridge Theatre since 2006 with its gripping story of murder, celebrity, money and greed. Set in Roaring Twenties, chorus girl Roxie Hart finds herself falling foul of the law after murdering her lover and failing to pin the blame on her mild-mannered husband. After being sent to the women's block of Cook County Jail, Roxie meets the celebrity murderess Velma Kelly and her big-time lawyer, Billy Flynn. With the newspapers clamouring for a juicy story, Roxie realises that her upcoming trial could be the big career break she’s been looking for. The current West End cast includes Sarah Soetaert as “Roxie”, Debbie Kurup as “Velma” and Jonathan Wilkes as “Billy Flynn”. Chicago will close at the Cambridge Theatre on Saturday 27th August 2011 to make way for Matilda the Musical. The show’s producers are hopeful of securing a transfer to another West End venue to extend the production’s current record-breaking 14 year London run.
