Compelling Story of a Musical Genius

Since opening in London in 1986 the Phantom of the Opera has become a global entertainment phenomenon, playing to over 100 million people in cities from Melbourne, Australia to Nagoya, Japan. The show is based on the classic novel by Gaston Leroux that tells the compelling story of a disfigured musical genius who falls in love with a beautiful Swedish singer at the Parish Opera House. Shamed by his appearance, the composer hides in the secret cellars and dark corners of the building, manipulating events and hoping that one day his affections will be returned.

The Romance that Wouldn’t Die

The Phantom of the Opera was adapted for stage by Andrew Lloyd Webber, whose operatic score has become the arguably the most famous soundtrack in musical theatre. Barnum star Michael Crawford (currently appearing in The Wizard of Oz) originated the role of “the Phantom” in the West End with Sarah Brightman appearing as “Christine Daaé”. A long awaited sequel, Love Never Dies, opened at the Adelphi Theatre in March 2010, moving the action forward 10 years and picking up the story as the Phantom plots a dramatic reunion with Christine (now a world-famous soprano) at his fantastical Coney Island lair.
