A Man of No Importance

Paul Clarkson reprises the role of poetry loving bus conductor Alfie Byrne in Director Ben De Wynter s acclaimed production of A Man of No Importance.

Based on the 1994 movie A Man of No Importance , starring Albert Finney and Tara Fitzgerald, the musical follows the story of Dublin man Alfie Byrne; a man never happier than when reading the poetry of Oscar Wilde to his bus passengers, or directing plays in the local church hall. When forced to confront a lifelong secret, Alfie must face a bumpy road to self-discovery.

With a book by Terence McNally, music by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics by Lynn Aherns, A Man of No Importance transfers to the West End after successful Fringe and Off-Broadway runs.

Sell-Out Production makes West End Transfer

Following a sell-out run at the Fringe Union Theatre, A Man of No Importance makes it’s eagerly awaited West End Transfer.

Paul Clarkson plays Dublin bus conductor ‘Alfie Byrne’, a man with a passion for the arts, who reads the poetry of Oscar Wilde to his passengers and directs amateur plays in the local church hall. When forced to confront a long-held secret, Alfie must face the opposition of the working-class world around him.

With music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Aherns and directed by Ben De Wynter,  A Man of No Importance is based on the 1994 film of the same title, starring Albert Finney and Michael Gambon.
