Tranfer from the Novello - From the Oscar nominated Director of The Reader, The Hours and Billy Elliot comes the multi award-winning West End and Broadway production of J. B. Priestley's classic thriller An Inspector Calls.
The story begins with the mysterious Inspector Goole arriving unexpectedly at the prosperous Birling family home. Their peaceful dinner party is shattered by his investigations into their involvement in the death of a young woman whom each of them in turn has exploited.
Stephen Daldry's production of J. B. Priestey's An Inspector Calls is without doubt the most outstanding theatrical events of our generation. Winner of 19 major awards, it opened at the National Theatre in 1992, transferring to the West End for two years before going on an extensive international tour including Australia and New York (Broadway). The last West End production ran for 8 years and the show has enjoyed a number of major UK tours.
Stephen Daldry’s production of J B Priestley’s ‘An Inspector Calls’ moves to the Wyndham Theatre after a successful revival at the Novello. The production won 19 major awards in the 1990s and has thrilled audiences around the world.
Priestley’s masterpiece is set in the year 1912 at the home of the prosperous Birling family. An engagement celebration is interrupted by the visit of Police Inspector Goole who is investigating the suicide of a pregnant young woman. As the Inspector’s investigation unfolds dark secrets linking each family member to the victim are revealed.
Stephen Daldry’s revival first opened at the National Theatre in 1992 and received three Olivier Awards. The production has since enjoyed significant success in the West End and overseas, clocking up over 4,000 performances worldwide.
‘An Inspector Calls’ replaces ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ at the Wyndham Theatre which closes earlier than expected.
