West End Theatre Breaks
Arthur Miller s Broken Glass will play at the Vaudeville Theatre for a limited season, following previews from 14th September 2011. Set in 1938, Antony Sher and Tara Fitzgerald star as husband and wife Phillip and Sylvia Gellburg whose relationship falls into trouble when Sylvia is paralysed after reading about the traumatic events happening to Jews in Nazi Germany. Phillip contacts a doctor who believes the condition is psychosomatic. However, as more is discovered about the couples relationship, we learnt that Sylvias illness may be caused by deeper problems. Broken Glass was first staged in London in 1994. This all-star revival transfers to the West End after enjoying a successful fringe run at the Tricycle Theatre.
Set in 1938, Broken Glass follows the problems of a wealthy Jewish couple living in New York whose marriage is devastated by a sudden and unexpected illness. After reading about the horrific events of Kristallnacht (the night of fascist attacks against Jewish homes, shops and synagogues in Nazi Germany) Sylvia Gellburg finds herself paralysed from psychosomatic trauma. Her husband and doctor try to treat her condition, but deeper problems must be confronted before her recovery can begin. Arthur Miller’s Broken Glass received its London premiere in 1994 and was revived last year at the Tricycle Theatre where it played a critically-acclaimed run. Antony Sher and Tara Fitzgerald star in this West End transfer at the Vaudeville Theatre.
