Jerusalem is a comic, contemporary vision of life in our green and pleasant land. On St George s Day, the morning of the local county fair, Johnny Byron, local waster and modern day Pied Piper is a wanted man. The council officials want to serve him an eviction notice, his children want their dad to take them to the fair, Troy Whitworth wants to give him a serious kicking and a motley crew of mates want his ample supply of drugs and alcohol.
Jerusalem, a poignant comedy written by award-winning playwright Jez Butterworth, opens at the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, previewing from 28 January 2010.
Starring McKenzie Crook and Mark Rylance, Jerusalem tells the story of Johnny ‘Rooster’ Byron (Rylance) a drop-out who lives in a caravan. On St George’s day, the local fair is in town and Johnny is a wanted man. The council want to serve him with an eviction notice, hard-man Troy Whitworth wants to give him a beating, and a motley gang of mates want his stash of booze and drugs.
Fresh from a sell-out season at the Royal Court, Jerusalem transfers to the West End for 12 weeks only.
Cast includes Mark Rylance as Johnny, Mackenzie Crook as Ginger, Alan David as The Professor, Barry Sloane as Troy Whitworth and Aimee-Ffion Edwards as Phaedra.
