La Bete

La B te, the 1991 comedy by American playwright David Hirson, is set in 17th-century France and revolves around the stuffy Elomire, the head of the royal court-sponsored theatre troupe. Elomire is displeased when the troupe s patron, the Princess, wants to bring onboard the frivolous street entertainer Valere. Elomire protests heavily to appointing Valere, but the company is forced to perform one of Valere's plays, resulting in dramatic changes for the future of Elomire, Valere, and the companyitself. Elomire and Valere are left fighting to win over the Princess.

Mark Rylance, David Hyde Pierce and Joanna Lumley are to star in a new production, which will premiere in London's West End before transferring to Broadway. Matthew Warchus willdirect the revival.

Elomire is outraged when Valere, the local street clown, is brought onboard by the Princess. The theatre troupe are forced to perform one of Valere’s play’s, despite Elomire’s protests. The play ends with Elomire and Valere fighting for the Princess’ affections. Who will win her over and be appointed the theatre troupe leader?
