West End Theatre Breaks
Roald Dahls much-loved children's novel comes to the stage in a brand new musical written by Australian comedian Tim Minchin and playwright Dennis Kelly. Matilda Wormwood is a precocious child, able to read by the age of three and incredibly self-sufficient given that her parents take no interest in her whatsoever. Life at school isnt much better, as the monstrous Headmistress Miss Trunchbull keeps the children on their toes with some brutal and creative punishments. Then one day Matilda discovers she has a special hidden power, and sets about turning the tables on her negligent parents and ferocious Head Teacher.
The parents of Matilda Wormwood have no interest in their daughter. If they did they would discover that she is incredibly gifted. Unfortunately, they see her as nothing but a nuisance and would much rather spend time pursuing their own interests. Being such a bright girl, school should offer a welcome sanctuary - except that monstrous Head Teacher Miss Trunchbull rules with a rod of iron and punishes the downtrodden children for the most trivial of reasons. Then, one day, Matilda discovers she has a very special power and decides it's time to get her own back and teach the grown-ups a lesson.
The Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Matilda the Musical has opened at the Cambridge Theatre and will extend its booking period to the 21st October 2012......
