Mrs Warren's Profession

Felicity Kendal stars in George Bernard Shaw s controversial play Mrs Warren s Profession . Shaw s witty and provocative drama sees a mother-daughter relationship put under pressure in the face of Victorian morality. Mrs Warren s daughter, the prim, Cambridge-educated Vivie, has ambitions for a career in law. She is shocked to discover that her privileged upbringing has been financed by her mother s involvement in the world s oldest profession .

Originally banned by the censors for it s portrayal of vice and prostitution, Mrs Warren s Profession remains a witty and provocative drama. Felicity Kendal is most famous for the role of Barbara Good in top 70s sitcom The Good Life . Her numerous stage credits include The Vortex and most recently The Last Cigarette . Tony Award-winning director Michael Rudman has worked extensively in the West End, on Broadway and at the National Theatre.

Mrs Warren’s Profession

Felicity Kendal appears in George Bernard Shaw’s moving and provocative tale of a mother-daughter relationship thrown into jeopardy by a dark family secret. Vivie has enjoyed a privileged upbringing, a Cambridge education and a healthy monthly allowance. She is horrified to discover that her mother, Mrs Warren (Felicity Kendal), has financed this respectability through running a number of high-class brothels.

 

Felicity Kendal was last seen on the London stage in ‘The Last Cigarette’ at Trafalgar Studios in 2009. She is best known for her role as ‘Barbara Good’ in popular ’70s sitcom ‘The Good Life’. The cast also includes Lucy Briggs-Owen as ‘Vivie’, Mark Tandy, David Yelland, Eric Carte and Max Bennett. ‘Mrs Warren’s Profession’ was originally banned by the censors due to its portrayal of prostitution. Tony Award-winning director Michael Rudman’s production comes to the West End following a successful UK tour.
