The Ladykillers

Celebrated Ealing Comedy Comes to the Stage

The Ladykillers is a black comedy that was originally made into a hilarious film by the Ealing Studios in the mid 1950s, starring Alec Guinness, Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom. This new adaptation has been created for the stage by prolific comedy writer Graham Linehan (The IT Crowd and Father Ted) and is directed by Sean Foley (The Play What I Wrote). The Ladykillers tells the story of a sweet little old lady, Mrs Wilberforce, who finds herself at the mercy of a gang of ruthless criminals after renting out rooms in her lopsided house. The police are stumped by the gang s daring heist but Mrs Wilberforce becomes wise to their ruse, giving the crooks no option but to silence her for good. With only her parrot, General Gordon, to help her, Mrs Wilberforce seems no match for the five desperate men. But who will be forced to face the music in the end?

Revisiting a Classic Ealing Comedy

The Ladykillers is a classic Ealing comedy that tells the story of a sweet little old lady, alone in her house, who is pitted against a gang of criminal misfits who will stop at nothing to get away with their lucrative crime. Mrs Wilberforce is the innocent woman who rents out several rooms to a group of young men who turn out to be a criminal gang planning a major heist. With the police baffled by their daring scheme, only Mrs W and her parrot, General Gordon, stand in the way of the five desperate men. An all-star cast includes BAFTA Award-winner Peter Capaldi (The Thick of It), James Fleet (The Vicar of Dibley) and Ben Miller (The Armstrong and Miller Show).
