Billy Elliot

This is the stage version of the film which was released in 2000 and nominated for 3 Oscars, 3 Golden Globes and 13 Bafta awards. With a score by Elton John, lyrics by Lee Hall and choreography by Peter Darling, Billy Elliot the Musical has mirroredthe film's success, with an armful of Awards including four Oliviers.

Billy Elliot tells the story of the son of a striking Durham coal miner with an incongruous passion for ballet. While the show's themes are family-friendly, there is strong language and a certain amount of stage violence so the recommended age limit is twelve years old.

Latest 'Billy Elliot' Makes West End Debut

Adam Vesperman 13-year-old Adam Vesperman from Seattle, USA, has made his West End stage debut in the title role of Billy Elliot the Musical at the Victoria Palace Theatre. 27 boys have now played the title role in London and more than 40 boys, including film star Jamie Bell, have performed the part worldwide. Vesperman joins Ryan Collinson (12 from Southport), Josh Baker (13 from Rochester), Dean Charles-Chapman (13 from Romford) and Scott McKenzie (13 from Dumbarton) who all alternate the role.

Life-Changing Opportunity for Talented Youngster

Speaking about his West End opportunity, Vesperman said: “After a few auditions around America, I was the happiest boy on earth when I found out that I would be coming to London and to train to be Billy Elliot. It’s so hard being 5,000 miles away from my family and friends for so long, but it’s worth it. Being Billy has changed my life so much - the training, experience, and best of all the wonderful people I get to work with. I miss my family a lot, but being in the show keeps us so busy that I don’t really think about it too much. I am the sixth American Billy to star in the London production and I hope that I can maintain the high quality shown by my predecessors.”

The Olivier Award-Winning Production

Based on the Oscar nominated film, Billy Elliot the Musical tells the story of one boy’s dream to pursue his passion for dance, set against the background of the 1984 miners’ strike that threatens to tear his working class community apart. The production features music by Elton John and a book and lyrics by screenwriter Lee Hall. The show has won four Lawrence Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical and Best Choreography.
