West End Theatre Breaks
A powerful, thought provoking, emotional epic Musical set in Liverpool in the 60's. The story of twins, unbeknown to them separated at birth, adopting different lifestyles, whose paths cross again both in anger and friendship. Music from the era andsome brilliant performances has kept Blood Brothers as a perennial favourite for over 15 years. Booking Until: 01 November 2008. Please note that Blood Brothers is suitable for ages 12 and above although parental discretion will be allowed.
This is the musical version of Willie Russell’s tragedy about a pair of identical twins whose mother can only afford to raise one child. She gives the other to a wealthy woman to bring up as her own. Hard hitting and poignant, Blood Brothers asks whether genetics or environment plays the primary role in the shaping of an individual’s character. When the two boys meet in later life, neither sees himself in the other and catastrophe results.
Containing such musical standards as Marilyn Monroe and Tell Me It's Not True, Blood Brothers has become one of the West End's most enduring classics, having been in the West End for over twenty years. The London production currently stars the X Factor's Niki Evans in the coveted role of Mrs Johnstone.
“A thrilling and important piece of altogether bigger and more ambitious than almost any other modern work that one can think of. It stands tall and proud…brings the audience cheering to its feet and roaring its approval” Daily Mail
“One of the best British musicals ever…vibrantly and grippingly alive” Sunday Times
Blood Brothers are spicing things in October when Melanie C will be treading the boards at the Phoenix Theatre. |
Back in 1996 Mel C was one of the five most famous women in the world as part of Girl Power band the Spice Girls. The girls have sold over 60million records worldwide including hits Wannabe, Spice Up Your Life and Viva Forever and recently completed a sold out world reunion tour. Since the Spice Girls Mel has had a successful 4 album solo career and recently given birth to her first child, Scarlet, in February. Mel will be the first Spice Girl to tread the boards in the West End. |
“I’m a great believer in fate and when the opportunity came along to audition for the show, I couldn’t resist. It’s such a well loved show and has always been one of my favorites and the Liverpool connection just adds to the appeal. It’s a real honour to be asked to take on the role of Mrs. Johnstone especially following in such great footsteps. I love a challenge and I think the discipline of theatre combined with the inspiration of Willy Russell’s writing will provide great preparation for my fifth album” |
