A Little Night Music
A sophisticated musical in waltz time, Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music returns to the London stage this winter at the Chocolate Factory. Based on Ingmar Bergman's film Smiles of a Summer Night, A Little Night Music is set in turn-of-the-century Sweden where affairs of the heart are uppermost in everyone's thoughts. Hailed as a stylish celebration of romantic love and a fairy tale for adults, this production directed by Trevor Nunn - his debut Sondheim show - promises to continue in the Chocolate Factory's history of acclaimed musicals.
Following the huge success of the transfer of La Cage Aux Folles, the Menier Chocolate Factory has now given the West End Trevor Nunn’s triumphant revival of A Little Night Music, which moves to the West End’s Garrick theatre following a sensational sell-out Menier run.
A Little Night Music is one of Stephen Sondheim’s most famous and enduring musicals, containing the timeless standard Send in the Clowns, which has been recorded and performed by such musical legends as Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Mandy Patinkin, Anni-Frid Lyngstad-Reuss, Frank Sinatra, Van Morrison, Frankie Laine and eccentric model Grace Jones. Based on the 1955 Ingmar Bergman movie Smiles of a Summer Night, A Little Night Music tells of the love lives of a number of couples in Sweden at the turn of the century.
The show brings its impressive cast with it from the Menier, featuring Hannah Waddingham, Alex Hanson, Kelly Price and writer and comedy actress Maureen Lipman.

A Little Night Music takes the Garrick
Rumours that the Menier Chocolate Factory’s critically acclaimed production of A Little Night Music will be taking over the Garrick have now been confirmed and performances start on Saturday 28 March 2009.
The swashbuckling Zorro, a surprise smash hit with audiences and critics alike last year, posted its early closing notices this week and its last performance will now be on Saturday 14 March, six months earlier than originally planned. Predictions of Night Music’s transfer from the Menier were widespread, after the Sondheim classic matched the ecstatic reception enjoyed by La Cage Aux Folles before it, which subsequently made the move to the West End’s Playhouse.
A Little Night Music will retain its powerful cast when it transfers next month, with Maureen Lipman, Alex Hanson, Kelly Price and Hannah Waddingham all signed up for the move. Breaks will be on sale early next week.
