There’s a very odd man living deep within the bowels of the Paris Opera House. He wants his protégé, Christine, to star in the company’s next production and, as everyone discovers, it is an extremely bad idea to obstruct his desires. This dramatization of Gaston Leroux’s 1911 novel, Le Fantôme de l’Opéra, captures the darkness and occultism he ascribes to turn-of -the-century Paris. We are nearly certain that there are no demented beings lurking in the shadows of Her Majesty’s Theatre!

Phantom Anniversary Concert to be Screened Live

The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall will be screened live to hundreds of cinemas around the UK and the world, according to reports on BroadwayWorld.com. The special 25th anniversary concert production, which will be staged on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd October 2011, sees Ramin Karimloo return as ‘The Phantom’ with Sierra Boggess playing the beguiling Swedish soprano ‘Christine Daaé’. The Sunday 7pm performance will be broadcast live, enabling Phantom fans everywhere to join in the birthday celebrations.

Celebrating 25 Incredible Years

The Phantom of the Opera premiered at Her Majesty’s Theatre in October 1986, featuring Michael Crawford as ‘The Phantom’ and Sarah Brightman as ‘Christine Daaé’. Crawford won numerous honours, including a 1987 Olivier Award and a 1988 Tony Award for his now legendary performances in the mask. Today, Phantom is London’s second-longest running West End musical after Les Miserablés (which continues to play at the Queens Theatre). However, worldwide takings of more than $5 billion make The Phantom of the Opera the most successful entertainment event of all time.

Recreating the Paris Opera House

The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall will be directed by Laurence Connor (the man behind last year's Les Miserablés 25th anniversary celebrations) with Musical Staging and Choreography by Gillian Lynne. The magnificent West London venue will be transformed into the Paris Opera House with a unique design by Matt Kinley, inspired by Maria Bjornson’s original plans. Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess will be joined by Barry James as ‘Monsieur Firmin', Gareth Snook as ‘Monsieur André', Liz Robertson as ‘Madame Giry' and Wynne Evans as ‘Piangi', together with a cast and orchestra of over 200 and some special guest appearances.
