West End Theatre Breaks
A truly romantic, memorable Musical and so spectacular that it is still a hugely popular show after 22 years. Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit musical tells the tale of unrequited love set both on and beneath the stage of the gloriously gothic Paris OperaHouse.Under 6's will not be admitted. Please note that until 30 October 2011 midweek matinee is on a Tuesday at 2.30pm from 31 October 2011 midweek matinee will be on a Thursday at 2.30pm.
There’s a very odd man living deep within the bowels of the Paris Opera House. He wants his protégé, Christine, to star in the company’s next production and, as everyone discovers, it is an extremely bad idea to obstruct his desires. This dramatization of Gaston Leroux’s 1911 novel, Le Fantôme de l’Opéra, captures the darkness and occultism he ascribes to turn-of -the-century Paris. We are nearly certain that there are no demented beings lurking in the shadows of Her Majesty’s Theatre!
"Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical extravaganza... as spectacular a piece of true theatre as has been seen in years" The Daily Telegraph

Compelling Story of a Musical GeniusSince opening in London in 1986 the Phantom of the Opera has become a global entertainment phenomenon, playing to over 100 million people in cities from Melbourne, Australia to Nagoya, Japan. The show is based on the classic novel by Gaston Leroux that tells the compelling story of a disfigured musical genius who falls in love with a beautiful Swedish singer at the Parish Opera House. Shamed by his appearance, the composer hides in the secret cellars and dark corners of the building, manipulating events and hoping that one day his affections will be returned. |
The Romance that Wouldn’t DieThe Phantom of the Opera was adapted for stage by Andrew Lloyd Webber, whose operatic score has become the arguably the most famous soundtrack in musical theatre. Barnum star Michael Crawford (currently appearing in The Wizard of Oz) originated the role of “the Phantom” in the West End with Sarah Brightman appearing as “Christine Daaé”. A long awaited sequel, Love Never Dies, opened at the Adelphi Theatre in March 2010, moving the action forward 10 years and picking up the story as the Phantom plots a dramatic reunion with Christine (now a world-famous soprano) at his fantastical Coney Island lair. |
